Tapestry Crochet

 

 

 

I have had a go at tapestry crochet for the first time. I tried two techniques. The first one was crocheting and turning your work as you would do with normal crochet (white square), I found that it did not give me a define edge of the heart, so I crocheted a chain around the heart just to give it a bit more shape. I do suspect it will look better had I drawn a bigger heart, but as this is me testing small is good! With the other technique I tried you keep the same side of your crochet facing you all the time (green square). This is what you use when crocheting in the round. But I wanted a square so I had to crochet one lap with my right hand and the other with my left hand. That is tricky! And I am lefthanded when it comes to life's essentials - eating and writing. NOT crocheting though.. But this technique made the heart shape more defined. Tricky. But as my daughter keeps pointing out, practice makes perfect. More lefthanded crochet for me...

What did I make from the squares? A lavender bag. Lovely with a bit of summer scent in the house!

Virkade bältesmuddar

Skydd mot vassa säkerhetsbälten. Perfekt användning av restgarner. Virkade i bomulls- och bamboo-garn så mjukt for små.

Protection against sharp seat belts. Perfect little projects to use up some of the stash. Made out of cotton and bamboo yarn so soft for little ones.

Min syster virkar

 

Jag måste bara visa något av det min syster har virkat. Hon tog upp virknålen på allvar för lite drygt ett år sedan och sedan dess har hon gjort massor av jättefina och pilliga saker. Hon har allt samlat i ett vitrinskåp - bra ide! Jag plockade ut några av mina favoriter, minismå bebisskor i silver, en hjärtansask och rolig skallra, men där finns massor av mer inspiration att hämta. Tråkigt bara att vi bor så långt ifrån varandra, annars hade det nog blivit massor med systervirkande tillsammans.

 

I have to show some of what my sister has crocheted. She started crocheting about just over a year ago and she has since then made lots and lots of beautiful and fiddly crochet items. Cleverly she has collected them all in a display cabinet. Definitely an idea to steal!I picked out some of my personal favourites, the teeny tiny little silver baby shoes, the heart box and the baby rattle, but there are tons of more inspiration in her cabinet! Sadly we live so far away from each other or I am sure we would have had lots of sisterly crochet together.

 

Thank you all so much for the kind comments about my other sister's baby's blanket. About the pattern to the blanket, I have never written a pattern before, and I made the blanket up as I went along, but when the children are back in school I will try to give it a go writing it down. In any case that request really made my day so thank you! 

Till min systers bebis

 

Min syster fick en liten flicka den första mars. Jag, Albi och Pop åkte över till Sverige och träffade henne förra veckan. Sötaste bebisen sedan mina! Jag hade lätt kunnat ta med henne över, men jag gissar att hennes föräldrar inte blivit så imponerade. Men jag utnyttjade mina mosterliga rättigheter till fullo med en massa bebisgos! Och som moster så virkade jag nästan ihjäl mig till hjärtebarnet. En hjärtansfilt med hjärtanskant, en randig piximössa och en katt med invirkad skallra. Om någon är intresserad så finns kattmönstret här. Piximössan och filten är egna mönster, men liknande piximössor kan man hitta mönster till lite överallt.

My sister got a baby girl 1st March. Albi, Pop and myself went over to Sweden to meet her last week. Cutest baby since mine! I could easily have brought her back with me, although I suspect her parents would not have been too impressed. But I used my auntie rights to the full - lots of baby cuddles. And as an aunt I went in to crochet overdrive. A heartblanket with heart border, a pixihat and a rattling cat. If anyone is interrested the pattern for the cat can be found here. The blanket and the pixihat are my own patterns although you can find patterns for similar hats allover.

 

Och våren har nått Sverige, sa jag skickar en vårhälsning med blåsippor från sommarstugan.

Virkad rund liten trasmatta

                               

 

 

 Jag har virkat en ny liten rund trasmatta, till gästrummets gästtoalett. Golvet är inte så varmt därinne men nu blir det förhoppningsvis lite mer bekvämt att stå på för tandborstande gäster. Mattan är gjord av ungefär ett helt påslakan rivet i 1.5 cm breda remsor och sedan ihopvirkad med virknål 9mm. Trots att det är ganska jobbigt projekt för händerna att virka med tygremsor, så är det beroendeframkallande att göra dessa rundlar. Funderar på var mer jag behöver en rund trasmatta...

I have made a new little crochet round rag rug, for the en suite in the guestroom. The floor in there gets terribly cold and hopefully this little rug will make it a bit more comfortable for toothbrushing guests. The rug is made of almost one duvet cover torn in 1.5 cm wide stripes and then crochet with a 9mm hook. Despite it being hard work on the hands to crochet with fabric it is really addictive to make these rounds. Thinking where else I might need a round rag rug...

Toad

 

 

Jag har tagit mig en liten bloggpaus, både på bloggande och kommenterande. Samtidigt blev det en virkpaus också. Men nu känner jag att jag har fått pyssellusten tillbaka. Vad inte bättre att börja virka igen än Toad! Albi älskar Toad så jag var tvungen att virka en när jag hittade detta fantastiska mönster.

 

I have had a little blog break. Both blogging and commenting I am afraid. And at the same time I also had a crochet break. But my love of crafting is now returning. And what better way to start crocheting again than making Toad? Albi loves Toad and when I found this fantastic pattern I had to make him.

Mycket av anledningen till att jag har pausat är att vår katt blev sjuk och tillslut fick vi avliva honom. Det var mycket gråt varje dag så det fanns liksom inte så mycket energi över till annat. Men nu efter nästan en månad av att ha ett kattformat hål i hjärtat har en ny katt flyttat in! Och alla känner sig bättre.

A lot of the reason for my break is that our cat got ill and in the end we had to put him to sleep. It was a lot of crying every day so I did not have a lot of energy over for other things. But now after suffering from cat shaped hole in our hearts for almost a month a new lovely cat has moved in. And we all feel so much better.

Kuddar i Askungentyg

Jag fick en överraskning på posten - ett Askungentyg. Barnen valde sina favoritmotiv och blandat med lite lappar och rester så sydde vi kuddar. Roligt pyssel trots att "Kom igen nu skynda ila"-sången från Askungenfilmen gick på repetition i huvudet.

Annars har det inte blivit så mycket pysslande på senaste tiden. Jag hoppas att jag kommer igång ordentligt snart.

I recieved a surprise by mail - a Cinderella fabric. Albi and Pop picked their favourite motives and together with some old scrap we made cushions. Lots of fun despite me having the Cinderella song from where the mice and birds makes Cinderella's dress on repeat in my head through out.

Apart from these cushions I have not been too crafty lately. I hope I will get back into it soon.

Snöfall

Vad gör man med alla sina snöflingor? Jo ett snöfall. Med lite snö så önskar jag God Jul!

What to do with all snowflakes. Make a snowfall! And with some snow I am wishing everyone a Merry Christmas!

Virkad korg

Det här är min nya virkade korg till pågående virkade projekt. Jag behövde något som håller ordning på kreativiteten. Jag har anvant mig av Stylecraft Special DK. Det garnet fungerar mycket bra till korgar eftersom det håller formen väl. Mormorsrutorna i botten hittade jag hos Betsy Makes och de kallas Petal Patch. Hjärtansknapparna har jag gjort på keramikkursen.

This is my new crochet basket for my crochet VIP's. I needed something to organise the creativity. I have used Stylecraft Special DK, it works well for baskets as it keeps the shape. The grannies are called Petal Patch and I found them at Betsy Makes. I made the little heart buttons in my ceramics class.

Och den är redan full. Jag behöver kanske virka en till?

Already full. Perhaps I need to make another one?
