I knit and plant and plant and knit. Already cucumber, tomatoes and sweet-peas have started growing.

Pale Green är finaste färgen

Den senaste tidens garnskapande har blivit en mormorsrutefilt. Det känns som om det var väldigt länge sedan jag sist virkade rutor. Pop tycker om den ljusa aqua-gröna färgen och efterfrågade en filt. Så länge som jag får förfrågan så virkar jag (fast förresten annars också! Men det är fint när barnen frågar).

Jag har använt King Cole Bamboo Cotton DK i färgerna svart, vit, pale green och så den blåturkosa som jag inte hade någon etikett kvar till och som verkar ha utgått? Det är något nästan meditativt att virka mormorsrutor och jag tycker speciellt om när de ligger i prydliga högar och väntar på att bli ihopvirkade.



Pale green is the prettiest colour

The past few weeks yarn crafting has resulted in a granny-square blanket. It feels like it has been ages since I last crocheted squares. Pop likes the pale aqua green colour and requested a blanket. As long as I get requests I will crochet (and obviously at other times as well, but it is lovely when the children put in requests!)

I have used  King Cole Bamboo Cotton DK in black, white, pale green and the blue turquoise, I have lost the label for that one unfortunately and it looks like it is no longer in production? I find granny-squares almost meditative to crochet and I specially like it when they are piled up neatly waiting to be joined together.

GJWHF-Socks

What better way to start the new year than with a pair of knitted socks?

Where to begin with all the loveliness? Firstly the yarn of course! This was a Christmas present from Maria. We normally give each other something crafty for Christmas every year, and do I need to say that opening her gift is one of the highlights? Anyhow this time we ended up doing the Great Big Sock Yarn Swap, as I bought her sock yarn as well.

The beautiful skein I found under my tree is bought from Sam from Betsy Makes and is a superwash merino/nylon blend, in the colour Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. And fun it has been! A delight to knit with. And even more so for using Winwick Mum's (yes back to the experts again) Easy Cable Sock pattern. I did question the word easy, but as usual the patterns are great at explaining each step, so you don't feel daunted by them. Saying that, I still cannot help but being a bit amazed that I actually ended up getting the cables....  I also learnt a new heal stitch from this pattern, which turned out beautifully. I am very happy with these socks. A joy to knit and a joy to wear!

And lovely snowdrop! Even though we have frost on the lawn in the morning this beauty brings a promise of spring!

Sockervadd-sockar

Eller spiralsockar (nästan)på mormors vis.

Min mormor stickade spiralsockar. I en något mer brunorange ton än vad man normalt hittar, men det var på tidigt 80-tal och då fanns det förmodligen en hel del 70-talsgarn kvar i gömmorna att använda upp. I vilket fall som helst så ville jag ha en enkel sockmodell men dock med lite struktur och då kom tanken på de gamla spiralsockarna fram. 

Sockfakta

Garn: Sock Yarn från Hedgehog fibres, handfärgat i Pinky någonting som jag inte kan uttyda, 100g/400m

Stickor: 3mm rundstickor (hade nog kunnat använda 2.5)

Mönster: Mormors/internet/gammal tidning och eget. Men i princip 60m som stickas 5a, 5r i 4 varv och sedan förskjuter man grupperna 1m antingen åt höger eller åt vänster beroende på hur sockan ska vrida sig, sedan stickas detta 4 varv och sedan förskjuts grupperna igen. Sticka på tills sockan är lagom lång och ta sedan in för tårna. Alltså inget hälkrångel! Jag valde även att sticka en mudd först, men det är inte helt nödvändigt.

Jag har nu varma tår!

Candy floss socks

Or spiral socks (almost) the way my grandmother used to make them.

My grandmother used to knit spiral socks. In a slightly more brown/orange nuance than what you usually find, but it was the early 80s and I suppose she had some 70s yarn still in her stash begging to be knitted into something. Anyhow I wanted a simple sock model, but still with some pattern in the knitting so I started thinking about spiral socks.

Sock facts

Yarn: Hand dyed Sock Yarn from Hedgehog fibres in colour Pinky something ( I cannot read it) 100g/400m

Needles: 3mm circular (could probably have used 2.5mm)

Pattern: My grandmothers/internet/old magazine/own. Simply cast on 60m, then knit groups of 5k5p for 4 rounds, then shift the groups 1s either to the left or to the right depending on how you want the spiral to twist and then repeat. Keep going until the sock is long enough and then shape the toes. And note - NO heal palaver!! I choose to knit a cuff on mine as well, but it is not necessary. 

I am happy to report I now have warm and toasty toes!

Krans/Wreath

Tricket i juletider är att focusera på favoriter. Tillexempel en kransbindarmorgon. Skönt att glömma både tid och rum!

The trick at Christmas is to focus on favourites, like a wreath making morning. Wonderful to forget about everything else for a while!

Frost

Första riktigt frostiga morgonen idag...

...då är det tur att barnens mössor är färdigstickade!

Vingar?

Eller Nästan Reyna, XL, 1000m

För några födelsedagar sedan fick jag ett nystan Sheepjes Whirl i färgen Liquorice  Yumyum. Jag har tittat på många mönster och nästan börjat både virka något eller sticka något, men inget kändes helt rätt förrän jag hittade Reyna. Nu hade jag dubbelt så mycket garn jämfört med rekommendationerna, men det finfina med detta mönstret är att det enkelt går att justera. Jag fick en jättesjal, som påminner om vingar. Jag har inte blockat den (min rebell!), tycker att den faller fint iallafall.



Wings?

Or Almost Reyna, XL, 1000m

Some birthdays ago I got a ball of Sheepjes Whirl in Liquorice Yumyum. I have looked at many patterns and almost started to crochet or knit something, but nothing felt absolutely right until I found Reyna. I had double the amount of yarn compared to the instructions, but the beauty of this pattern is that it can easily be adapted. I ended up with a huge shawl, reminding me of a set of wings. I have not blocked it (rebel!), I think the drape is beautiful as it is.

Titas Poncho

Ja det här garnet känns ju bekant! Det är samma som jag använde till tröjan i förra inlägget. För en gångs skull köpte jag rejält med garn.

Ponchon är till Albi, därför kan det ju tyckas lite förvirrande att den heter Titas Poncho, men det är för att jag började sticka samtidigt som jag såg Kärlek het som chili, där huvudpersonen heter just Tita. Kanske en av de mysigaste av höstdagar, stickning och en bra film!

Ponchon är stickad efter eget mönster på rundstickor, uppifrån och ner, med omlagsökningar fyra gånger var femte varv. Eftersom Albi tycker om giraffer, så pyntade jag med en giraffknapp, som jag köpte på en mässa tidigt i våras, och som jag har längtat efter att få använda! Passar bra här tycker jag.


Tita's Poncho

Well doesn't this yarn look familiar?! It is the same I used for the jumper in previous post. For once I actually bought more than enough yarn!

This poncho is for Albi, so it might be a bit confusing me calling it Tita's Poncho, but that is because I started knitting whilst watching Like Water for Chocolate, where the main protagonist is called Tita. Probably one of the snuggest and coziest of autumn days, knitting and a great film!

The poncho is knitted on the round, top-down using my own pattern with YO increases four times every fifth row. Since Albi loves giraffes. I decorated using a giraffe button, bought at a fair early spring this year. I have so been looking forward to use it and it works well here I think.

Skiftningar i is

Bara för att jag inte bloggar så mycket så innebär det inte att jag inte stickar, eller sysslar med annat garnrelaterat.

Jag har stickat ytterligare en tröja - Skiftningar i is. Min son säger alltid - Practice makes perfect - så jag övar och lär mig nya tröjtrix varje gång.

Tröjfakta:

Mönster: Drops Denim Crush, mest som stöd, ändrade som vanligt mer än hälften, men det är skönt att ha något att luta sig på.
Stickor: 6mm rundstickor
Garn: Big Fantasy, färg 024, en ull, alpacka och akrylmix som fint ändrar både färg och tjocklek.
Har jag använt tröjan? Ja!

Bilderna tog jag i oktober, men fuxian blommar faktiskt fortfarande fint, Så länge det är milt så verkar den hålla på. En fin överraskning eftersom jag var helt övertygad om att den frös ihjäl i vintras.


Just because I am not on the blog (or the internet either for that matter) does not mean I am not knitting or doing other yarn related things.

I have knitted yet another jumper . My son always says - Practice makes perfect - so I practice and pick up a few new jumper trix along the way.

 Jumper facts:

Pattern: Drops Denim Crush, just as a support, as usual I changed more than half of the instructions, but it feels good to have something to lean on.
Knitting needles: 6mm circular
Yarn: Big Fantasy, colour 024, a wool, alpaca and acrylic mix, which changes both colour and thickness beautifully throughout.
Have I used the jumper? Yes!

I took the pictures in October, but the fushia is still in full bloom. As long as it stays relatively mild it seems to just keep going. A lovely surprise as I was convinced it froze to death last winter.
